Erika Yamin

Erika Yamin is excited to be joining Dr. Laufer's practice, having recently completed her doctoral coursework and dissertation research at The Chicago School. Erika also holds a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago, where she studied Psychology and Anthropology. Erika has worked with adults, adolescents, and couples on a range of issues, including anxiety, mood disorders, relationship concerns, and life transitions.

Erika is passionate about women’s reproductive mental health and has extensive academic and clinical experience in this area. Her doctoral work, entitled "Caring for the Whole Woman: A Program for Practitioners of Obstetrics and Gynecology", examines the need for and benefits of a specialized psychoeducational program for practitioners of Obstetrics/Gynecology.

After previously working as a birth doula, Erika has gone onto research and advocacy work related to improving women’s experiences during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Erika has worked clinically with a range of related issues, including infertility and loss.

As a clinician, Erika pulls from a few therapeutic styles including a psychodynamic, relational, and cognitive behavioral approach. Honoring the uniqueness of every individual, she tailors her approach to best facilitate each person’s journey and goals for growth. Erika has a warm and authentic approach, seeking to create a comfortable space to gain a complex understanding of her clients. She feels it is a privilege to help individuals gain both insight and skills. She works to be present without judgment in order to lay the foundation for healing and transformation, whereby a person can align awareness and action in order to create new life paths.
